I’ve been listening to Restless People for a year now and finally the band is moving things forward. Slated for a September release, the debut album is coming out on IAMSOUND. Restless People is members of Tanlines, (a very busy and in demand group) and Professor Murder. Their music sounds how you’d think a collaboration of these groups would: fun, dancetastic, tropical electronica with a bit of global flavor. Wails, air horns and sparkly synths are in abundance.

This is the music of today, this year, 2010. Genres are out the window, the remix is king and music that transcends mind, space and time controls us. Ok, that last part is probably true of all good music, but yeah, you get the point.

The next show is scheduled for August 8 on the Williamsburg Waterfront. This is a FREE Jelly NYC show that also features Cut Copy, Memory Tapes and Glasser. Should be good time.

Here’s Restless People at Brooklyn Bowl covering P.O.D.’s “Alive,” shot by FADER TV.

“Victimless Crime” first debuted last summer, not sure if it’s on the new LP but I can’t imagine it won’t be. Fun stuff…

This is so adorable, honestly. What does the fan who made this video like best? Is it Tanlines, “Anna,” his neighborhood, what? He seems to love them all the same, and that makes me feel really happy.

The band liked this so much they decided to call it “official.”

Tanlines played Brooklyn Bowl like it was a living room. Even though they were surrounded by too much stage, they somehow filled it. Maybe it was their liveliness, or just the infectiousness of their beats, either way, Tanlines looked and sounded great on Friday night.

Acrylics opened the show, which was part of the BAM Sounds Like Brooklyn fest. While Acrylics really bring the throwback way back, they could easily be a 70s band, they are also totally Brooklyn circa 2010. Their producer and record label owner, Chris Taylor (of Grizzly Bear) was in the audience, and everyone seemed to enjoy their laid back Tom Petty style pop. A few songs stick out, particularly “All of the Fire,” but the majority of Acrylics is a tad monotonous. With a little more experimentation, perhaps, they can jazz up their sound.

Check out the video of Tanlines. Long build ups do a world of good.
