I met up with Marnie Stern a few weeks ago and interviewed her for IMPOSE. Check out the interview.

TASTE

When I was coming up, I always just wanted to be good at something, I never thought of it as masculine and I never thought of it as feminine, I thought of it as cool. If I saw musicians who were doing something interesting I would just think oh they’re really good, I would never think that’s a girl who’s really good I would just be really jealous. And if they were really bad, it was the same embarrassment.

Here’s the single off her new album, Marnie Stern.

Marnie Stern: For Ash

Marnie Stern‘s new track is a brutal, aural assault. It’s an anthemic thrasher. A high-voltage challenge. The vocals are wailed, “Ay yai yai yay yah!” in total punk rock spirit. It sounds a bit like Lightning Bolt, even, albeit without the distortion and with a guitar instead of a bass.

“For Ash” is a smoldering hot fire pit of a song. Stern is daring the listener to get crazy with her on this one. Go for it.

Stern is known for her guitar chops, but this song also shows her strong understanding of melody. It’s a catchy noise rock song.

Stern’s new album Marnie Stern is out on Kill Rock Stars on October 5.
