Thanks to Tom at The Great Pumpkin for giving me this video to post. I missed the Group Tightener party where this video was shot and luckily this great Dead Gaze video helps to fill that void a little bit. Furlow is an aggressive guitar player and his vocals, both here and on tape, are layered in reverb, adding depth to an already thick sound. Even as a two-piece Furlow makes a mess in your ears.
Vodpod videos no longer available.Cole Furlow will be in NYC for CMJ and is also playing an MME/ Pop Gun show at Glasslands on Nov. 12 with Blank Dogs (album release), Velvet Davenport and Swimsuit. BE THERE and get tickets here.
Check out a track from the new Firetalk 7″ from Dead Gaze.
Dead Gaze: Take Me Home or I Die Alone
Cole Furlow keeps the DEAD GAZE jams coming with this latest installment in what is shaping up to be an impressive lo-fi rock catalog. “Emmanuel Can’t Come Close Enough” is the B side of a new release on Denver’s Fire Talk Records.
Like Furlow’s other tracks out there in the Internet, this one is also a hazy and syrupy sweet cacophony. With reverb so heavily poured on his vocals, you can’t tell what he’s going on and on about, but Emmanuel can’t come close enough. Luckily DEAD GAZE is there to make up the difference.
Dead Gaze: “Emmanuel Can’t Come Close Enough”
Catch DEAD GAZE on Nov. 12 at Glasslands, supporting Velvet Davenport and others to be announced!
Cole aka DEAD GAZE sent over the new jam from his upcoming Group Tightener release (we all saw that coming, amiright?) this morning. It’s, as you’d expect, an 80s pop-happy trip song, with vocals so thick in reverb it’s hard to hear what’s going on. That’s the intention, right?
When I listen to this I can’t help but picture a combination of Tom Cruise and Molly Ringwald. Like if they met in 1986 and decided that they were the future of pop culture. That didn’t quite happen, but maybe if they had teamed up then we’d have a different world today. Anyway, it doesn’t matter because we have DEAD GAZE to provide that daydream for us. For me, I mean.
Dead Gaze: We All Belong to You
Cole Furlow is moving to Brooklyn, so if you missed his show last week, no worries. You’ll get another chance soon.

Weezer straight through a wall of hazy distortion. That’s what Dead Gaze is to me. And that’s a fucking goooooood thing.
Dead Gaze is Cole Furlow, hailing from Wesson/Jackson/Copland, Mississippi. I’ve been hearing his sounds for a few months now, but finally the man reached out to me and got me off my laurels and posting. He sent, “This Big World,” which is actually more fun than the other songs, and that’s saying a lot.
This track is off a split with Gray Things on Clan Destine Records. It’s out soon. Check the other awesome Dead Gaze song on that release, “Remember What Brought Us Here” at Weekly Tape Deck.
Dead Gaze seems awfully busy. Another release also just dropped- this one on Mirror Universe Tapes, and yes, it’s a tape.
Let’s get this southern man up east, yeah?
