Ok, maybe i’m cynical, but I see the message in the new Superchunk video (yes! it’s true!) to be something along the lines of, “Stay the fuck out of our 90s jams, poseurs!”
This is a great song- so elastic and poptastic that you may need to blow some bubbles.
Vodpod videos no longer available. This song is off the new album, Majesty Shredding, out tomorrow. More info on the video at Videogum.

You do understand that there would be no Big Trouble without Superchunk right?

HA! Well, anything new and fresh is going to at least feel, if not also sound, better.

“Well, anything new and fresh is going to at least feel, if not also sound, better.”
Quite a statement!
I feel like the video is going more for a message along the lines of “You don’t have to wear some sort of ostentatious hipster get-up to make fun, catchy and energetic rock’n’roll.”
And I also think it comments on the whole ’90s–>late ’00s reunion trend (ala Pavement, GBV, MBV, Hole etc etc) in a pretty hilarious and self-deprecating way.
I’ve got nothing against Big Troubles–enjoy their tunes and look forward to seeing them live more in the future–but if they were playing the same night as Superchunk, I’d definitely have to go with Mac & co. They put on a terrific show at the Seaport the other summer.
