Here’s another band I was recently tipped off to, Alex Bleeker and the Freaks. They do a brilliant cover of Mountain Man’s “Animal Tracks,” which I posted yesterday. The band is from New Jersey and have a hometown bar/barnyard feel to them. Sweet melodies and guitar lines fill their music, a nice departure from the shred em, tear em up trends of today. It’s a swoon inducing haze of Grateful Dead like solos over a consistent bass line. Very nice. The band is on Underwater People’s Records along with fellow New Jersey band Real Estate (AND guess what? The bassist in that band’s name is Alex Bleeker. Get it?) They are playing a show at Glasslands on Sept. 13. Check out the tunes on their MySpace and get one track, “Prisoner” here.
