Sometimes it is possible to discover new bands in The New York Times. Generally, the critics there are a little behind the pop music scene, but it doesn’t matter much (at least not to me, cos their critics are amazing writers), but this time they told me about something. That something is Seabrook Power Plant, a noisy and punk inspired bleugrass band with a Lightning Bolt-esque drummer.

Apparently the group is an amalgamation of players all whom play with other free jazz types around the city. Check this story out for details.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any tracks for download but see banjo player Brandon Seabrook’s Myspace page for the sounds of the band. Totally worth it!!
