Juliana’s cover of “Say It Ain’t So” is widely regarded as a good one. She used to do it a lot back in the mid to late 90s and I was lucky enough to see her play it on the “Made In China” tour, in 2005. That album was a break in the soft-Hatfield of the late 21st Century. It’s aggressive, raw, no-holds barred: a full offensive. And the show was amazing. My friend Devin said she sounded like Neil Young, which, coming from him, is the ultimate compliment. The show was at the Beachcomber in Wellfleet, MA, (Cape Cod) right by da beach. After the show we ran down the 30-foot dunes and put our feet in the water. We didn’t run back up, for obvious reasons.

There’s some typical Hatfield banter at the beginning of the track…”If you’re crazy like I am…”
