What a potent pairing: Ian MacKaye and drummer Amy Farina. The romance between the two turned into an awesome band, The Evens, which put out one of the most interesting albums of the mid-2000s, “The Evens.” In sparse, stripped down songs, the duo crafted elusive yet clearly delivered songs about protest, politics and, of course, Washington D.C., their home.

“When things should work but don’t work, that’s the work of all these governors.”

FAIR ENOUGH.

Bonus: the Farina sung “Crude Bomb,” which features her slightly whiny drawling vocals and jumpity percussion.
