This Replacements song is off their album “Let It Be” and it smacks of 80s vulnerability. The song is about androgyny and gender, and how easy it is to be confident in your identity. And how easy it is to then lose that confidence. Paul Westerberg tells the story so plainly and clearly. In the first chorus the boy is happy wearing a dress and the girl happy “sporting” a chain. By the last verse the characters have decided that gender is of no matter.

They both look the same
They’re overjoyed in this world
Same hair, revolution
Unisex, evolution

The only music is a solo piano line and a little brushing of a snare. The complexity of the subject is highlighted in this way.
