This song never really hit me as being great until it came out on The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack, which is just about nearly perfect, for a soundtrack. It was then, and in the context of that movie, which, corny as it may sound made a big impression on me in college, that I really appreciated it. The pretty guitar picking, the violin, the xylophone…It’s just so…pleasant.
By the way, has anyone seen TRT lately? It hasn’t aged well. There are many, many movies, albums, blogs, etc. out there now that basically copied the sarcastic and earnest cutesiness that Wes Anderson somehow made refreshing….
Still, this is a good song.

This song reminds me of driving around the reservoir in my dad’s Mercury on hot summer evenings in 1997. If I recall correctly, that mix tape also had a song by Ween (“Piss Up a Rope,” I think), some random yodel-y band from Houston whose name escapes me, at least one crappy Jade Tree emo band, and Ani DiFranco. Ah, those were the days.

Thanks for that Tim C. Fascinating. It’s really important you share with the rest of the world ALL your thoughts.
