From Im Not There

From "I'm Not There"

Jim James recorded 5 Harrison songs shortly after the Beatle died using just his voice and an acoustic guitar to express his sadness. The songs, buried until now, will be released on August 4 as the EP “Tribute To.” It’s odd that James is releasing it under the moniker Yim Yames. But in other terrible bands names news, ever heard of The Monsters of Folk?? Jim James also happens to be in that band, along with M Ward and Conor Oberst, who are set to release their debut on September 22.

Track Listing

“Long, Long, Long”
“Behind That Locked Door”
“Love You To”
“My Sweet Lord”
“Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)”
“All Things Must Pass”

It makes sense. Still- it’s only a reported 33 percent, and they only say they bought “a” CD, so that means 1 in three months? That’s not a lot. And that means you must have gotten stuff elsewhere. Anyway, this is almost a pointless conversation. People steal music, it’s in our culture.

Check the post at Prefix.

I love the punky attitude of Pissed Jeans:

“I could show up with a cold six-pack, but I don’t bother!”

All this screamed over a driving beat, hard, crunchy guitar lines and a killer bass that beckons your body to shake. Alright, man. This sound is not the rage these days, so go for itttt.

This song is off the band’s third album on Sub Pop, “King of Jeans,” out on August 18.

“Dirty Projectors’ van flipped outside of Detroit, MI on their way up to Toronto. Although the crash was serious, we’re happy to report that all members of the band have been safely discharged from the hospital. The band will be flying home to New York in the morning to regroup and rest. Unfortunately, the band will have to cancel Toronto and Montreal. Thank you for understanding and sending your well wishes.”

“This bed is on fire with passion and love! The neighbors complain about the noises above, but she only comes when she’s on top….”

Oh boy.

When this song was on the radio in 1993, on 104.1 alternative rock, I was happy. Those were the days of Veruca Salt and PJ Harvey…this song and Oasis, too. And jelly shoes. I should change my name to nostalgic.

HAHAHAHAA. I was attempting to find “derelick my balls, capitan,” you know, that scene from Zoolander, with Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller??? I stumbled on this first, and it’s WAY funnier.

I WISHHHHH. She’s what makes this Discovery track little more than bubblegum. Her voice is so right. If you haven’t checked her solo-ness, do it. Get “High Road” download here. And I don’t need to say anything about Dirty Projectors.

Sasha Frere-Jones has posted on his blog a piece of writing by Lee Ranaldo (and edited by SFJ) about the first time Lee and buddy David Linton saw Rhys Chatham and Glenn Branca. The “show” was at Max’s Kansas City in 1979….a really great read. Best line, and a good summation:

I had never heard anything like it before, yet that night I felt it was something I’d been hearing in my head forever. Here it was, in front of me in the flesh, finally in real life.

A rare and somewhat candid J Mascis Q and A. Mascis says some funny things, shrugs a lot (which is typical) and says the best guitar solo ever is “I guess Machine Gun- Band of Gypsys.”

Alright Alright I hear that.

Dino J is sold out on Thursday at the Music Hall of WBurg but the band is playing free on August 16 at Central Park.
