Mike Watt is a veteran of many scenes. He’s loved by all musicians. He’s the kind of musician, like most bass players are, that is best backing others up. But there are times when those back-up musicians move to the front of the pack. Like on the 1995 Watt album “Ball-Hog or Tugboat?” That album of Watt songs, featuring the best of the best of 90s musicians, shows how powerful a force Mike Watt really is.
That album features everyone from J Mascis to Nels Cline to Dave Grohl to Eddie Vedder to Petra Haden and Anna Waronker from the awesome and short-lived That Dog.
He’s playing tonight at the Mercury Lounge with his current band, Mike Watt and the Missingmen. He’s also been on tour with Iggy and the Stooges, again, as a back-up player. Iggy and the Stooges demand the best though- remember that. The Vegan has an extensive Q and A with Watt….
Two goodies from Ball-Hog:
Mike Watt: “Against the 70s“
featuring Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Carla Bozulich (click the above link)

AND

This record is a STONE CLASSIC! Love it to death. “Chinese Firedrill” is one of my favorite songs ever. Shaw and I completely ripped off this version of “Maggot Brain” on our Beefmaster Jones CD, too.

“piss bottle man” was written after Watt got real sick, i think. he almost died. or am i thinking of “pissbags and tubing”?
